Lei Xiong

Lei Xiong was born in Gaoan (P.R. China) on 28th May 1990. After finishing high school in 2008, Lei started a Bachelor of Sciences at the Underwater Acoustic Department of Harbin Engineering University (P.R. China). She awarded her bachelor degree in June 2012 with a thesis on "Spectral method for computing dispersion curves of elastic waves in waveguide" supervised by Pr. Li Qi and Pr. Fan Jun (Feb. to June 2012).

Lei joined the Laboratoire d'Acoustique de l'Université du Maine (Le Mans, France) as ESR1 of the ITN FlowAirS project in October 2012. Her PhD research focuses on the "Use of metamaterials in duct acoustics", under the supervision of Yves Aurégan.

Research activities

I start my work at the end of September 2012. At the beginning, my work focused on the study of the acoustical behavior of purely reacting liners, as well as the effect of the flow. Part of the work had be presented in the 19th AIAA conference in May 2013, and an article on this work is planning to be published. Some other part of this work were also presented in the 12nd CFA (Congrès Français d’Acoustique), 22-25 April 2014, Poitiers. 

Then, I started to study about the Reaction Matrix Method, and about how to use this method to investigate wave propagation through locally perturbed acoustic waveguide. Two cases are considered: a waveguide coupled with cavity, and with impedance on the wall. Results of the recent work will be considered to publish in a journal, and part of the work has been submitted in a conference EURONOISE 2015.  Next step of this work is to investigate the coupling effects of the resonators embedded in the cavity or in the porous material (metamaterials).

In October 2014, I did my first secondment in Airbus where I worked with Hélène Posson and Delphine Lizarazu. The objective of the work was to investigate the attenuation properties of a metamaterial made of a metallic porous material filled with metallic inclusions by doing the numerical computation, and then to compare the results with measurements performed at LAUM. For now we have already got many interesting results, the next step for this work is to preparing the experiment in LAUM, and to do the comparison between the computation and measurement.

At the end, the attenuation property of the metamaterial on the duct, and the effects on the wave propagation will be concluded by the results from the computation and the measurement, as well as the theoretical analysis will be done.
